Condemn Central Govt’s Continual Limiting of EPF Benefits! – Solidarity With All Struggles Against the Modi Govt’s Attacks on EPF!
Scarcely has the dust settled over the attempt of the Central Govt. of RSS BJP to limit the workers’ rights to withdraw from their PF deposits in times of need, the Govt. has made another attack. The Finance Ministry has decided to limit the interest rate on PF deposits to 8.7% against the 9% demanded by central unions and also the 8.8% recommended by the Board under the Central Labour Ministry. Calculations for the year had shown that the Govt. could easily pay an interest rate of 8.95% to workmen on the basis of the returns of the investment of PF funds. But the Govt. has chosen to refuse to pass on the benefits of the workers’ investments to them.
The situation is both in keeping with the desperate need of the Govt. for money in view of the economic slump in the country and also the determination of the Modi Govt. to attack workers’ benefits and rights at all costs. The working class movements have forced this Govt. to either retract on or keep in abeyance several steps including the infamous anti worker amendments to almost all the major labour laws as also the attempts to tax PF withdrawals and also to restrict workers’ rights to withdraw their own deposits apart from the rules already in place.… Read More
Resist Fascist Offensive of Pseudo-National Communal RSS-BJP Govt!
The students of JNU have again been ruthlessly attacked by the JNU administration at the behest of the RSS Modi Govt. Seeing the opportunity when examinations have started and certain sections of students have even begun leaving for summer vacations, the cowardly administration has announced rustication for various periods for Umar Khalid and Muttoo, prohibited Anirban from the JNU campus for five years and imposed massive fines on other student leaders including the President of JNUSU Kanaihya Kumar. All this is supposed to be in the defence of ‘nationalism’ by the RSS backed Central Govt committed to selling India to imperialism while cruelly stamping out peoples resistance. Not only that, these Hindutva elements in power also seek to stamp out the freedom of enquiry by attacking centres of higher learning and ensuring only conformity and studies into mythology as the only knowledge allowed to Indians. They are the native Macaulays. Besides, like Dronacharya, they too hate the Dalit students who have made their way into institutions of higher learning. The proof is Rohith Vemula.
The JNU students have accepted the challenge and have launched a struggle against this drama of ‘defending’ nationalism which is all what these arbitrary punishments are about.… Read More
Mouthing slogans of ‘nationalism’ the Modi Govt. has taken one more step to tie India to the chariot wheels of US imperialism. India has decided to sign an agreement to share military logistics with US imperialism. The Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement was reached during the recent visit of US Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter to India. Two more agreements, again long demanded by US imperialism, one on communications security and interoperability and the other on geospatial cooperation, are in the pipeline.
The agreement signed will give visiting US aircrafts and warships access to resources like fuel and water at India’s military bases. Modi Govt.’s step reverses India’s longstanding position not to sign such agreements. Though Indian Govt. has since some time been conducting joint military exercises with US military it had been hesitating to sign the aforesaid agreement pressed by US since 2004. Though the agreement as usual mentions bilateral use, it is obvious that US imperialism in its hegemonic pursuit will be using Indian military facilities. Indian Govt. has long cooperated with imperialist powers including US imperialism but Modi Govt. is openly entering into such an agreement which is in the direction of forging military alliance.
This agreement is not only a surrender of Indian sovereign interests by the Modi Govt., it is also a body blow to whatever ‘independence’ has been in the foreign policy.… Read More
Call on 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (April 14, 2016) – Intensify Struggle Against Caste Oppression!
Caste division and oppression is a reality of our society. While it is defended and perpetuated in Hindu religion with its preaching of unequal status by birth, the caste system had its impact even on those religious groups which do not subscribe to such preaching. It is a reality encompassing Indian society. It is not just a set of prejudices, it does not pertain only to superstructure of our society, it also pertains to the very base. It has been and is a useful tool for the ruling classes to extract surplus and appropriate the labour of the toiling people. Hence its longevity in successive ruling dispensations through the ages. Brahmanism has provided the ideological basis for division of Hindu society into castes and oppression of a large majority of the people. Manusmriti has been a charter of crude caste exploitation and oppression.
Caste question presents in a myriad of ways from attacks on Dalit lives, houses and property, sexual exploitation and rapes of Dalit girls and women, their oppression at work place, segregation practiced with respect to them to denial of reservation or inadequate filling of such posts, in getting accommodation to deliberately failing such students, their insults at public places etc.… Read More
- On compensation for crop damage.
The third All India Conference of AIKMS expresses its grave concern at the serious losses suffered by peasants due to damage to crops on account of inadequate protection from natural causes like drought and floods and havoc caused by companies supplying spurious seeds, fertilizers and pesticides. Such crop damage depresses the conditions of the already crisis ridden peasantry, pushing many of them into destitution and helplessness.
The third All India Conference demands that the govt. must pay full compensation for the entire loss of crops suffered by any number of peasants. No criteria should be artificially fixed to deprive them of this right. This compensation should be paid to peasants, share croppers and agricultural labourers suffering due to damage to crops.
- Indebtedness and loan waiver
The third All India Conference of AIKMS expresses its grave concern at the rise of indebtedness in the peasantry and agricultural labour, pushing many of them to suicide. Peasant suicides are continuing in Vidharba, Telengana, Punjab and many other parts of the country, while cases of suicides of agricultural labourers are also being reported. The cause of rising indebtedness lies in the adverse terms of trade with regard to agriculture – rising cost of inputs and absence of remunerative prices, inadequate institutional lending forcing peasants to take private loans.… Read More
