AIKMS Dharna Against Land Acquisition Amendment Ordinance – Peasants vow to defeat Modi govt.’s attempts to take their land

All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha’s (AIKMS) campaign against Modi Govt.’s efforts to forcibly dispossess peasants from their land and hand over their land to MNCs, domestic corporate and real estate mafia reached capital Delhi on April 24th 2015. AIKMS organized a big Dharna at Jantar-Mantar, Parliament Street to protest against Land Acquisition (Amendment) Ordinance which was re-promulgated by Modi Govt. on April 3, 2015. Modi Govt’s Ordinance seeks to undo the changes which were incorporated in Land Acquisition law by UPA Govt. in LARR 2013 and in effect restores the colonial Land Acquisition Act, 1894. AIKMS has launched a countrywide campaign against this attack by Modi Govt.

Around 2,500 activists took part in the Dharna. They were drawn from ten states- Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telengana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and West Bengal. Participants in the Dharna included leaders and activists from a number of anti-displacement movements- from Anti-Vedanta movement in Niyamgiri and anti-Posco movement from Odisha, Anti-Polavarum struggle from Telengana and AP, from movements against thermal power plants and coastal corridor in AP, from anti- thermal power plant and anti smart city struggles in Allahabad (UP), from anti-displacement movements in Punjab and also from Maharashtra.

The day long Dharna started with the activists marching to the bedecked Dharna site in two large rallies from the railway station.… Read More

AIKMS Announces Dharna Against Land Acquisition Amendment Ordinance at Jantar Mantar on April 24, 2015 from 11 AM

AIKMS will hold a protest dharna at Jantar Mantar, Delhi on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 11 AM against the New Land Ordinance issued by the BJP govt. It shall present a memorandum to the President of India to demand its withdrawal.
While the govt. is calling for increased Industrialization, existing industry is functioning at two thirds its installed production capacity with several industries lying closed, unable to produce as there are insufficient purchasers in the market. 63% of land acquired for SEZs is still lying unused. Production capacity of about 1 lac MW of Thermal Power Plants is lying unused due to lack of water and coal.
Rather than protect the peasants and help them, propping up the Indian markets and creating demand for industry, the Govt. is making laws to uproot peasants including tribals and hand over their land, water and mineral resources to MNCs and their Indian partners for easy and quick profits, better described as windfalls. Food crises, food inflation, hunger and destitution are rising. The Govt. policy is to attract dollar investments and cheat the people, especially the 70% hard working population living in rural areas (overwhelming majority of whom directly depend on agriculture and animal husbandry), exploit the unorganized cheap labour and plunder the natural resources of our country.… Read More

AIKMS Protest Dharna at Hyderabad – Don’t make it Telangana of suicides

Since the formation of Telangana state and the Government of TRS, during the last 4 to 5 months, more than 319 farmers have committed suicide. The agriculture in Telangana is mainly dependent on rain water and bore wells. There is a huge deficit in the rainfall leading to the drying up of the fields and loss of crops. In addition to this, there are huge electricity power cuts. This has further made the farmers at loss. Ultimately credits taken by farmers have increased.  All these have demoralized poor and middle farmers and drove them to commit suicides.

The government of Telangana is not timely responding to the needs of the farmers. It is not taking actions which provide succor to the farmer community. Even as the rate of farmer suicides has reached around 5 to 6 per day, the government has not action to help farmers. TRS had promised to waive the farmer loans during their election campaign but has not taken any decision on those lines after they came to power. Rather, it has taken a u-turn on this after its promise of waiver. No decision supporting the farmer’s needs has yet been taken.

With the demands of taking up the action against the suicides of farmers, demanding the removal of power cuts, providing 9 hours power supply to the farmers for agricultural usage, giving support prices for all the crops, compensating the lost crops and other issues, All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (AIKMS) , Telangana State Executive conducted a Dharna at Indira Park, Hyderabad on 30.10.2014.… Read More
