Saharanpur and Fightback

Shabbirpur village in Saharanpur district is the latest addition to the growing list of places where Dalits have risen against the injustices and atrocities of upper castes. On May 21st 2017, thousands of Dalits from western UP, particularly Saharanpur, came to the Jantar Mantar protest site in the capital to express their resolve to fight against attacks on them.

Shabbirpur coming after Una and Sangrur has added a new dimension to the struggle of Dalits and oppressed castes in the country. In Una, the beating of Dalit youth by RSS hoodlums had led to big protests by Dalits and progressive organizations in Gujarat. Those leading the protest had called for Dalits to shun skinning of dead cattle and demanded that Dalits be given land to which they are entitled. Una protests had once again highlighted the question of land for Dalits. Una became a symbol of not only a new wave of protests by Dalits but also the raising of land question by oppressed castes in their fight against caste oppression and attacks.

Earlier, in Sangrur district of Punjab, Dalits had been struggling under the banner of Zamin Prapti Sangharsh Committee for the share of panchayat agricultural land legally earmarked for Dalits for lease.… Read More

Bihar: Landlords Torture Dalit and MBC Youth

Rohtas district in Bihar has witnessed a heinous torture of one MBC and a Dalit youth by landlords. In the village Nauvan under Dinara police station dominated by Kurmi landlords and JD(U) MLAs are elected from this area i.e. Dinara and Kargahar in which landlords of this community dominate. The area has also been notorious for atrocities on landless poor peasants and massacres e.g. Vishrampur and Akodi Gola have taken place in this area in which landlords of this community and their political mentors had been the perpetrators.

The two rural labourers, namely Suresh Chauhan belonging to Nonia caste, a most backward caste, and Vijay Sharma belonging to Lauhar caste, a caste included among SCs by the State Govt. worked as mason and labourer with a landlord, Patali Chaudhary. When on January 29 these two asked for the money for their labour, Patali Chaudhary and his goondas accused them of stealing battery of his tractor. They were and confined and undressed made completely naked and badly beaten with rods. Hot iron rods were thrust into their private parts causing serious injuries. Landlords backed by Police Attack Dalits Struggling for their share of Panchayat Land

Landless Dalits of Malwa belt of Punjab, especially Sangroor district are struggling for their rightful share in panchayat land since 2014 under the leadership of Zameen Prapti Sangharsh Committee and have won important victories. Ruling class parties, landlords, police and bureaucracy are very much angry at this dalit rising. This year also there have been pitched struggles since June which are continuing till date. Dalits are facing concerted attacks by landlords and the police is acting for the landlords by foisting false cases against struggling Dalits and arresting them besides using force to disperse their gatherings.

In village Jaloor, block Lehragaga, panchayat land of dalit share was wrongly and forcefully taken by landlords through fake auction. Dalits are protesting against this. They have held dharnas and demonstrations a number of times, but all these protests fell on deaf ears and land was occupied by landlords. Dalits in protest did symbolic harvesting. On 5th October 2016, landlords attacked their houses, injured men and women and damaged properties. Police instead of taking any action against the landlords, foisted false cases against dalits and arrested them.

On October 4, 2016 a deputation of nearly 50 women went to meet the DC. When they were returning they were detained and threatened by police and let off in the evening.… Read More

COW VIGILANTISM : RSS-BJP ATTACKS ON MUSLIMS AND DALITS

RSS cow vigilante groups are unleashing mayhem across the country. Their acts are not only criminal and heinous but they publicize their acts with impunity. They know that they are backed by the powers that be and the state machinery moves to protect these groups, or one may say that this vigilantism is state sponsored.

On July 11 in village Mota Samadhiyala near Una in Gujarat the RSS hoodlums beat up dalits for skinning a dead cow and posted this video. In Haryana these hoodlums had forced two alleged ‘beef smugglers’ to eat cow dung. In Karnataka, RSS’s Bajrang Dal activists have attacked dalits for a similar reason. Two Muslim women were beaten by RSS activists at a Railway Station in MP for half an hour on the suspicion of carrying beef. These incidents are neither isolated nor spontaneous. There is a systematic campaign unleashed by the RSS-BJP vigilante groups across the country particularly in the states ruled by the BJP. A number of such groups are functioning and coordinating their activities with local police. In Haryana, along the border with UP, a large number of such groups man the nakas on the roads. They beat up, even kill on the excuse of cows being taken across the border for sale.… Read More

Dalit Rally at Sangrur

Thousands of dalits gathered in Sangrur to organize a rally under the joint banner of ZPSC, PMU and KKU. They were demanding to cancel the fake land auctions, release their arrested activists and cancel the fake FIR registered against ZPSC activists. First peoples gathered in grain market of Sangrur and then marched through the bazzars of Sangrur to DC office , where they held a dharna.

Where PMU state president Tarsem peter addressed the people and said that Govt. has delusion that it will grab the land that is reserved for dalits by doing fake auctions in the favor of landlords. Only dalits will till the land belong to them , even they have to pay any sacrifice.

While ZPSC distric president Mukesh maloud said,” Govt is at the side of village big landowners and playing on their side by opening the old cases those have been already cancelled. In other cases where ZPSC activists are attacked and injured police is not taking any action against big land owners under the pressure of ruling Akali-BJP govt. , especially sangruru MLA parkash chand garg and Patiala akali leader Surjit Singh Rakhra . But brave people of dalits will not bent and start a fierce struggle against this oppression.… Read More

Sangrur (Punjab) – Struggle of Dalits for Panchayat land advances facing State Repression

Recently the struggle of Dalits in Sangrur district of Punjab for their share of Panchayat land faced severe govt. repression. This struggle has been continuing for last two years under the banner of Zamin Prapti Sangharsh Committee (ZPSC). On May 24, 2016 Akali-BJP Govt. fired upon and lathi charged Dalits protesting against auction meant to defraud them of their right. In village Ballad Kalan, police action injured a large number of Dalits and police framed false cases against 170 activists, 71 named and others un-named, for having attacked police. It charged them for attempt to murder though no policeman had sustained any injury. This attack occurred on May 24th, on the eve of the anniversary of the famous Naxalbari armed peasant uprising.

Police has arrested several activists. Arrests are continuing. Cases are open-ended, allowing the police to round up whomever they consider the leaders of the movement. Police has seriously clamped down on the area. Movement of the activists is becoming difficult in these rural areas. But the people are determined not to let the Govt. rob them of their share of land and give it to the landlords. Panchayats in the area are controlled by rich landowners, panchayati administration and representatives of the ruling parties.… Read More

PDSU-PSU Call — Fight Against Punishment to JNU Students for Defending Democratic Rights!

Resist Fascist Offensive of Pseudo-National Communal RSS-BJP Govt!

The students of JNU have again been ruthlessly attacked by the JNU administration at the behest of the RSS Modi Govt. Seeing the opportunity when examinations have started and certain sections of students have even begun leaving for summer vacations, the cowardly administration has announced rustication for various periods for Umar Khalid and Muttoo, prohibited Anirban from the JNU campus for five years and imposed massive fines on other student leaders including the President of JNUSU Kanaihya Kumar. All this is supposed to be in the defence of ‘nationalism’ by the RSS backed Central Govt committed to selling India to imperialism while cruelly stamping out peoples resistance. Not only that, these Hindutva elements in power also seek to stamp out the freedom of enquiry by attacking centres of higher learning and ensuring only conformity and studies into mythology as the only knowledge allowed to Indians. They are the native Macaulays. Besides, like Dronacharya, they too hate the Dalit students who have made their way into institutions of higher learning. The proof is Rohith Vemula.

The JNU students have accepted the challenge and have launched a struggle against this drama of ‘defending’ nationalism which is all what these arbitrary punishments are about.… Read More

Call on 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (April 14, 2016) – Intensify Struggle Against Caste Oppression!

Caste division and oppression is a reality of our society. While it is defended and perpetuated in Hindu religion with its preaching of unequal status by birth, the caste system had its impact even on those religious groups which do not subscribe to such preaching. It is a reality encompassing Indian society. It is not just a set of prejudices, it does not pertain only to superstructure of our society, it also pertains to the very base. It has been and is a useful tool for the ruling classes to extract surplus and appropriate the labour of the toiling people. Hence its longevity in successive ruling dispensations through the ages. Brahmanism has provided the ideological basis for division of Hindu society into castes and oppression of a large majority of the people. Manusmriti has been a charter of crude caste exploitation and oppression.

Caste question presents in a myriad of ways from attacks on Dalit lives, houses and property, sexual exploitation and rapes of Dalit girls and women, their oppression at work place, segregation practiced with respect to them to denial of reservation or inadequate filling of such posts, in getting accommodation to deliberately failing such students, their insults at public places etc.… Read More
