RESULTS OF OBAMA’S VISIT TO INDIA (New Democracy News)

How Prime Minister Modi and his RSS-BJP Govt. bent over backwards to please the chief of the most powerful imperialist power, the biggest aggressor against the world people, is now known to everyone. No effort was spared to showcase personal bonhomie between US President Obama and Indian Prime Minister only to hide the unequal nature of the relationship between the two countries. It is well known how the weak take pride in their friendship with the strong only to cover up their weakness. However, when the results of the visit are analyzed it is obvious that the obvious has prevailed. The Indian Govt. has weakly succumbed to the demands of the powerful visitor.
The operationalization of US-India civil nuclear agreement has been much talked about and has clearly shown how little Indian rulers care about the law of the land and the right of the parliament to frame them. Modi, like his predecessor Manmohan Singh, termed this deal as the cornerstone of the US-India strategic partnership. But it is obvious that from the beginning this deal was, for the US, primarily an opportunity to sell its outdated and untested nuclear reactors to India at exorbitant costs. Indian rulers are bent on serving the interests of US MNCs by proposing to buy their reactors.… Read More

Another Black Law : Consign it to the dustbin of history – S. Mahil

First choice of Indian and international corporate, Narendra Modi, is at the helm of affairs as Prime Minister of India. Modi, even before coming to power had clearly said that he will not only continue the policies followed by Dr. Manmohan Singh, he will deliver where Manmohan failed to deliver. It makes the direction of the Modi government very clear. UPA govt. signed many memoranda of understanding with Indian and Multinational Companies but most of those could not be put into effect because of people’s resistance against the govt. efforts at displacing them to acquire land. Now it is more than clear that Modi govt. is going to adopt all methods of high-handedness and resort to brutal repression to fulfill the promises given to the corporate. Statements rejecting any dialogue with Maoists, sending of more forces and allotting of more funds for suppression of “left wing extremism”, retrogressive and anti-worker amendments in labour laws and proposal of anti-people amendments in Land Acquisition Act clearly show the direction of Modi government. Following the footsteps of its senior partner, Punjab government led by Prakash Singh Badal is moving in the same direction. Punjab government brought a draconian law, named “Prevention of Damage to the Public and Private Property Act, 2014” in the last session of Vidhan Sabha, which was summarily passed without any opposition by Congress party, the only opposition party in the assembly.… Read More

Barddhaman Blast – Beyond the mainstream narrative – Amit Chakraborty

It is interesting to note that chief minister of West Bengal in a public meeting on 24th october stated Barddhaman blast which occurred on 2nd October 2014 in Khagragarh could be a conspiracy hatched by Indian intelligence agency Research & Analysis wing( RAW). This statement created a furore among RSS-BJP leaders along with the parliamentary oppositions including mainstream lefts. Ms. Mamata Banerjee also said that she was in central government for 23 years and she knows how things happen!

Sarada scam has defamed Trinamool Government putting two of its MP’s into jail and at present CBI is putting pressure on Ms. Mamata Banerjee, this must have prompted her to put forward this sort of serious allegation . Shamik Bhattacharya, the newly elected BJP MLA from Basirhat stated that Ms. Mamata Banerjee is the only chief minister of India who has alleged RAW in this way and also criticized her sense of nationalism. Siddhartha Nath Singh, BJP leader also criticized her. Question may be raised why Ms. Banerjee who claims to be very honest tolerated this sort of conspiracy organized by RAW for last 23 years.

But whatever may be the intention of Ms. Banerjee this statement needs serious appraisal.… Read More

J&K : Withdraw AFSPA

Kashmir is aflame again. The issue this time is Army firing at a white Maruti car in Budgam killing two of the five teenagers in it and badly injuring the other two. The Army said that the car refused to stop despite being flagged at three checkpoints. The SDM enquiry (SDM Budgam) and SSP have established that the car skidded out of control so could not stop and it finally hit a lamp post and stopped. An NDTV team reported it had seen the dented lamp post with bullet marks too. Locals state there is only one check post. The Army earlier said militants were in the car and had fired and injured two soldiers; later Rashtriya Rifles retracted and said news of militants coming was there and when the car did not stop, it was fired on. Many have commented that the firing to stop a car should be at the tyres; firing at the window screen is to kill not stop. One of the four occupants was a 14 year old teenager who was killed on the spot. The killings took place on Muharram day.

At the same spot three years earlier, the Army had fired on three soldiers ‘by mistake’ killing one.… Read More

Labour Laws Ruling Class

Modi Govt. bares its anti-worker fangs

The so-called labour reforms announced by Narendra Modi on 16th October 2014, a day after polling in Haryana and Maharashtra, are a proclamation of blatantly pro-corporate and anti-worker measures unfettered by immediate electoral considerations. The operative measure announced by it is further chaining of labour dept. machinery in the name of doing away of ‘Inspector Raj”. In place of filling up 16 forms of compliance with labour laws, companies will fill one single, self-attested form. Even with sixteen forms, labour laws are better characterized by their violations. A large number of workers are without basic rights like minimum wage, PF and ESI. According to Labour Dept. figures, in the industrial establishments in the capital Delhi, nearly 93% workers do not have these basic rights. Situation is equally bad, if not worse, in the industrial areas elsewhere. This is due to corrupt anti-worker character of labour law machinery which abets these violations unless and to the degree forced by the working class movement.

Thus the most lethal provision in the new dispensation will be inaction on complaints against violations unless inspection is allowed by ‘central authority’, which is an amorphous term. The net result will be that the changes will also be unnecessary.… Read More

Modi Govt. Unleashes Anti-People Measures After Assembly Elections

Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana have demonstrated continuing trend of collapse of Congress and decline of caste based regional parties resulting in BJP getting a majority in Haryana and emerging as the single largest party in Maharashtra. With little to separate the ruling class parties in terms of economic policies and on the issues affecting the common people, money power and support of corporate media became decisive in favour of BJP. BJP openly sold its tickets to highest bidders fielding a large number of super rich candidates. However, the hope with which BJP had snapped ties with Shiv Sena to form a single party govt. in a large state like Maharashtra has been belied and only an alliance can assume power which would not be difficult given the rank opportunism of ruling class parties.

In the months after May 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Modi Govt. has focused on showcasing its ‘achievements’ in foreign policy and ‘increasing’ India’s standing on global scene. What Modi Govt. has specifically done is to draw India deeper into US embrace. Tensions with neighbouring countries Pakistan and China have been escalated to justify this embrace in public opinion. Modi’s visit to Japan, Australian PM’s visit to India and Modi’s visit to USA have all been hailed as successes irrespective of the specific agreements forged or Indian interests secured while Chinese President’s visit was continuously bogged down in border tensions during the days of his visit.… Read More

Defeat of Modi led BJP Across the Country

Money and media power of corporate along with the muscle power of Hindutva forces had propelled Modi led BJP to power on the strength of the decimation of the then ruling Congress. But like their other products, the life of Modi wave manufactured by corporate has been short. Elections held after assumption of power by Modi led BJP Govt. at the Centre, in state after state across the country have brought home this simple truth. Uttarakhand, Bihar, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, the electorally crucial state of UP and Gujarat whose name has been appended to the model propagated throughout the country over the year before Parliamentary elections, all have voted to exorcise the ghost of Modi wave.
Corporate media’s spin doctors had exerted much to portray the massive defeat of ruling Congress as a positive vote for Modi led BJP and his so-called Gujarat model of development. Rejection was portrayed as affirmation. Ruling Congress, with its leadership engrossed in somehow ensuring dynastic succession and its Govt. mired in corruption and perceived as such by the people, was rejected by the people who groaned under deteriorating conditions of existence with sharp rise in prices of essential commodities, increasing unemployment and job losses, worsening conditions of peasantry, increasing attacks on women, dalits and tribals.… Read More

Saharanpur: Oppose RSS-BJP Designs to Deepen Communal Division

Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist)-New Democracy strongly condemns attempts of RSS and BJP to unleash virulent communal campaign utilizing the incidents in Saharanpur where three persons lost their lives and a large number of shops were burnt down. Violent campaign of RSS-BJP is part of their drive to deepen communal division in the country, particularly in the most populous state of Uttar Pradesh. They have not only launched a hate campaign against Muslims but are also trying to pit other minorities and oppressed castes against Muslims. Attacks by Sangh organizations in different parts of the country are part of this. It should be borne in mind how in village Akbarpur Chanderi, near Kanth in Moradabad district, RSS-BJP tried to foment communal trouble by getting a loudspeaker installed permanently in a temple there and getting it played at prayer time during Ramzan days.

CPI(ML)-New Democracy also condemns the incidents in Saharanpur over extension of a Gurudwara on a piece of land claimed by Muslims to be the site of a Mosque earlier. This matter has been under litigation and courts have had occasion to give their judgments which were in favour of the Gurudwara committee. Disputants should take legal recourse to settle such disputes rather than street action which will be utilized by RSS-BJP to foment communal trouble.… Read More

Lok Sabha Elections and Challenges Ahead

Lok Sabha elections held in April-May 2014 have resulted in BJP securing a majority of seats. It secured 282 seats and along with its NDA allies secured 336 seats in a house of 543 members. There are many a first in these election results which demand attention from the Party and the people.

This is the first time that the political arm of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has secured a clear majority of its own in Lok Sabha. BJP had been in power from 1998 to 2004 but it was through NDA and its own seats were only 182, much below majority mark. It had to adopt an agenda for governance and shelve its communal projects like construction of Ram Temple at the site of Babri Masjid, uniform civil code and abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution relating to J&K.

Another significant feature of these elections that a ruling class party secured a majority of its own in Lok Sabha after nearly three decades. It was in 1984 that Congress led by Rajiv Gandhi secured 404 seats in Lok Sabha after assassination of Indira Gandhi.

It is also important that though BJP has secured a majority in Lok Sabha, it is much short of the majority in Rajya Sabha even along with its allies.… Read More
