NRC Assam Communal Drive of Fascists Feeds on Linguistic and Ethnic Divide

The final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published on July 30, 2018 leaving out over four million people who had applied to enroll in the Register making it an attempt to deprive largest number of people of citizenship. While Govt. has stated in the Parliament that this is only a draft and those left out will have an opportunity to produce the requisite documents before the NRC is finalized in December 2018, President of ruling BJP Amit Shah has stated that all these four million people left out are infiltrators from Bangladesh and will be thrown out. This statement of Shah is in line with Modi’s statements during Assam elections that Bangladeshis should pack their bags to be deported. There is an ominous ring to the exercise.

Assam is linguistically, culturally, ethnically and religiously a mixed society where people with different identities have been living for centuries, contributing to the economic life of the region and interacting to produce what is Assamese society today. These have come to Assam over last two centuries since Assam was brought under colonial rule by British in 1826 taking it from the then Burma. Even before this, Assam had a large number of tribals.… Read More

Peasant March in Delhi on 20.07.2019

The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) organized a protest black flag march today from Mandi house to Parliament Street today to declare Modi Govt’s announcement of MSP as a betrayal of peasants on the election promises made by the govt. AIKMS members from Punjab and UP participated in significant numbers. Nearly three thousand peasants participated in the March which started under the heavy downpour.

The peasants exposed the ‘historic’ betrayal of the Prime Minister who has claimed that he has fulfilled his poll promises on MSP, by raising Black Flags and shouting – Modi ka MSP Dhokha Hai. Central Government had promised the peasants fifty percent profit on comprehensive cost (C2 – as mentioned in Swaminathan Commission report) has adopted the same formula of A2 + FL by which Manmohan Singh Government had fixed MSP for crops.

Two Bills for Farmers’ Freedom From Debt and Guaranteed Remunerative Minimum Support Prices, prepared by AIKSCC (a co-ordination of 200 peasant organisations) and were scheduled to be tabled in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha today. The peasants also declared their No Confidence in Modi govt because of the betrayal.

While the Govt has restricted announcement of MSP to only 14 crops the peasantry has been demanding MSP for all crops including fruits and vegetables and Milk amongst other agriculture related produce.… Read More

  1. Immediate implementation of minimum wage and dearness allowance.

Protest Against Attack on Swami Agnivesh

CPI(ML)-New Democracy strongly condemns the physical attack on Swami Agnivesh in Pakur in Jharkhand on July 17, 2018 by the hoodlums of RSS linked youth wing. Swami Agnivesh was physically assaulted by these goondas and sustained injuries due to this attack. A statement by a BJP Minister in Jharkhand leaves no doubt that this attack was carried out at the behest of RSS-BJP Govt. of Jharkhand.

This attack is part of the violent attacks being carried out by RSS through its affiliated organizations to suppress all voices of dissent. RSS is targeting all democratic personages supporting the struggles of oppressed sections including tribals, dalits and minorities.

Jharkhand Govt. has been increasingly attacking tribals, changing law relating to acquisition of land and rules of Forest Rights Act. They are dispossessing tribals of their land and means of livelihood and suppressing their struggles.

RSS aims to silence their voice and crush the struggles of these sections. RSS-BJP is increasingly exposing its anti-people and fascist character through these attacks.

CPI(ML)-New Democracy also condemns that despite two days since the attack, no arrest has been made of the attackers. The enquiry ordered by the state govt. is merely an eyewash.

CPI(ML)-New Democracy demands that a judicial enquiry by at least a sitting judge of a High Court should be conducted to find out the conspiracy behind this attack.… Read More

IFTU Condemns ongoing Repression in Tuticorin; Demands immediate release of Adv. Vanchinathan

The Indian Federation of Trade Unions condemns the ongoing severe state repression in Tuticorin where on 22nd and 23rd May 2018 police firings on protestors against the Sterlite plant resulted in the martyrdom of 13 people. House to house searches without warrants, indiscriminate arrests are on. Now the Tamil Nadu govt is also extending the repression to supporters of the people’s movement. In this context IFTU condemns the arrest from Chennai Airport on the midnight of 20-21 June 2018 of Advocate Vanchinathan, State Co-ordinator of People’s Rights Protection Centre and practising law at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court and also legal advisor to the Anti Sterlite Struggle Committee. He has been arrested in crime no 190 of 2018 Sipcot police station/sec 147, 148, 188, 353, 506(2) and sec 3 of TTPPDL Act in connection with the Tuticorin incident. It is contemptible that while maximum support has been given to the corporate, people’s struggle is being ruthlessly crushed and public people and intellectuals who have stood by the genuine struggle are being targeted by the Tamil Nadu govt. On the other hand, while the strength of the movement has forced closure of the polluting plant, the corporate is now raising the bogey of ‘’threat’’ of pollution by stored acid to people’s lives to press for reopening of the plant, restoration of electricity connection and right to re-employ manpower!… Read More

Condemn Murder of Shujaat Bukhari; Uphold right of Self Determination for People of J&K

CPIML(New Democracy) condemns the contemptible gunning down of Shujaat Bukhari, Editor of Rising Kashmir and its three sister publications on June 14, 2018. Eloquent spokesperson of and firm believer in the right of self determination of people of J&K, Shujaat Bukhari ruthlessly exposed the instances of state terror against them. On the same day as he was brutally killed, Bukhari had been using social media to propagate the UN Human Rights Council Chief’s Report on the situation in Kashmir and had commented that it was the first time that the UN had undertaken such an exercise. His gunning down by “unknown” operatives in a high security zone in the capital city of Srinagar- the Press Enclave area- which is teeming with operatives of the armed forces and barrier after barrier to free movement, is astonishing. Even the ex CM of J&K, Omar Abdullah, said on NDTV that it is surprising that the killers were able to conduct a recee, gun down the Editor and his two guards and get away from the area unchallenged.

Bukhari was not just a thoroughly honest journalist; he was also a speaker for the rights of the Kashmiri people. He was part of the movement which reintroduced the teaching of Kashmiri language in the Valley’s schools.… Read More

CPI-ML New Democracy Imperialism

US Imperialism : Declining Power and ‘Smart operators’

Collapse of G-7 meeting in Quebec, Canada marks serious intensification of contradictions among the imperialist countries. These contradictions should be viewed in conjunction with rising contradictions outside the G-7 fold. These contradictions relate to economic, political and military spheres. US Admn. under Trump is navigating its own course abandoning leadership role of the western imperialist countries. Successive US Admn. have tried to assert hegemonic role of US imperialism disregarding relative decline in the economic power of US imperialism and rise of other powers, particularly China. Bush Junior Admn. had launched ‘global war on terror’ to perpetuate hegemonic role of US imperialism. But this attempt to stop the wheels of history from turning was stalled by strong resistance of the people against US led aggressions and rising cost of wars undermining a declining economy resulting in bursting of bubble from 2008 onwards. In came Obama, who dreamt of launching the hegemonic project through other means. He boasted of trying to use smart power criticizing his predecessor for using crude power. Leading from behind and attempting to usurp the fruits from the front, Obama strategy too came a cropper. Their drive has resulted in rising conflicts in different parts of the world. Libya is a clear example where their regime change strategy has led to collapse of the state and intensifying sectarian violence.… Read More
