Gajapati (Odisha) : Landless tribals and dalits gheraoed Collectorate

On 16th September 2014, thousands of landless peasants mainly tribals and dalits gheraoed the Gajapati collectorate at Paralakhemundi demanding their rights over land and forest. This programme was organized by CPI(ML)ND and Lok Sangram Manch jointly in which more than three thousand people from five blocks (Mandal) of the district participated to press their demands over land and forest right before the state Govt. In Gajapati district landless people particularly the tribals have taken the lead in capturing hundreds of acres of land over the past several years. These include the Govt land, forest land, temple land and even the illegal patta lands of landlords. Coming under the pressure of land movement the district administration (both the revenue and police) had convened meetings on land issue several times in the past and assured the CPI(ML) ND and LSM leaders to distribute the Govt. land among the landless people living in each village. Though the Odisha Govt. several times in the past has promised to distribute the Govt. land to every landless family but it never materialized. As per the Odisha land reform Act also there is provision to distribute the Govt. land in each village to the landless and homeless people.… Read More

Press Release – CPI(M-L) New Democracy opposes High Court decision to free Bathe killers

The Bihar State Committee of the CPI(M-L) New Democracy strongly opposes the decision of the Patna High Court declaring all the accused in the Bathe genocide not guilty and freeing them. The result is that after a long process of 16 years, the govt., its police machinery and the judiciary has not found guilty or punished a single person for the brutal cold-blooded massacre of 58 landless poor peasants mostly dalits in Laxmanpur Bathe on the night of 1-2nd December 1997. It is no secret that Bathe massacre was a part of a series of murderous assaults unleashed by landlord goonda gangs and private armies in order to terrorize landless and poor peasants of Bihar who were daring to stand up against feudal exploitation and oppression. This decision and the earlier similar decision in the Bathani Tola massacre case will further embolden the oppressor upper caste landlords and their goonda gangs and armies like the erstwhile Ranvir Sena in Bihar. This decision is another reminder to the exploited and oppressed toiling masses particularly dalits, adivasis, minorities that they cannot expect to get justice under the present law enforcement system and it is only through intensifying their own struggles that they can defend themselves.… Read More

Bihar : Landless & poor peasants resist armed feudal-goonda attack

bihar-map-1rxic0dKulhadia village of Durgawati thana, Kaimur district in Bihar is situated between the new four-lane highway (GT Road) and the grand chord railway line. A large portion of the land of the village was owned by Raghunath Singh a landlord of Benaras. In order to evade appropriation of the land by the Govt. under the land ceiling laws the landlord had got a part of the land (plot no 190) recorded in the name of temple deities (Shivji, Ganeshji) although their existed no temple or deities, this being the common practice at that time in Bihar. The physical possession of this plot of land has been in the hands of landless-poor peasant dalit families of the village for over 40 years who have been regularly tilling it. This landlord died childless and various disputes are continuing in the courts among his relatives for inheritance.

On 14 June 2013 at around 9 AM, Sudhakar Singh a BJP leader and son of Jagdanand Singh RJD MP from Buxar and a big feudal of Kaimur District along with a mob of over 100 feudals and their goondas, mainly from other areas and a few from the village, marched to the said plot of land along with 6 tractors and started to forcibly till the land.… Read More
