General Secretary of PCC, CPI(ML) Com. Vaskar Nandy died in the morning of May 4, 2018. He was 80 years old. He was suffering from throat cancer for some time.
Com. Nandy had already come into contact with progressive movement during his studies abroad and participated in demonstrations against Vietnam war there. He has been a participant in the ML movement for five decades attracted by Naxalbari peasant armed struggle. Over this period he contributed in developing ML movement particularly in the Eastern India, especially in Assam where he led the development of extensive party organization and mass base. Despite his old age and ill health, Com. Nandy worked to organize tea plantation workers in Assam and North Bengal. Com. Nandy became a member of the Central Committee of the CPI(ML) when Unity Committee of CPI(ML) united with Central Committee of CPI(ML) to form PCC, CPI(ML) in 1977.
Com. Nandy struggled with problems faced by the revolutionary movement. He had knowledge, vision and strength of his conviction.
Of late, he was very keen to develop joint activities among the communist revolutionaries especially to fight RSS-BJP’s drive towards fascism.
CPI(ML)-New Democracy pays its homage to Com. Vaskar Nandy and offers condolences to the leaders and cadres of PCC, CPI(ML) and his family members.
CPI(ML)-New Democracy wishes to continue developing joint activities with PCC, CPI(ML) on people’s issues particularly in struggle against fascist drive of RSS-BJP as envisaged and supported by Com. Nandy.
